n the early 18th Century, Northern Italy was
terrorized by bandits - Boldest among the Robber-Chieftains
was Fra Diavolo (the 'Devil's Brother') who masqueraded as
the elegant Marquis de San Marco in order to mingle with the
rich Nobility and locate their wealth. Great Lords lost
their Gold to him - Great Ladies their Hearts.
In 1933, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy
starred as Stanlio and Ollio in the feature film, "The
Devil's Brother." This comic opera, based on Daniel Auber's
1830 opera "Fra Diavolo," is among the finest and most
popular of the legendary duo's films.
